The authors operated on 32 eyes with various types of glaucoma. One group of 18 eyes received phacoemulsification-aspiration, intraocular lens implantation and trabeculotomy. The other group of 14 eyes received additional sinusotomy. The postsurgical intraocular pressure (IOP) averaged 14.6 mmHg in the first group and 14.0 mmHg in the second. No significant differences were present between the groups. Postoperative IOP spike over 21 mmHg occurred in 36% of eyes in the first group and in 39% in the second. No significant difference was present between the groups. The postoperative IOP spike averaged 32.6 mmHg in the first group and 24.0 mmHg in the second. The difference was significant (p = 0.0068).
