  • The prevalence of pseudo-exfoliation syndrome in Tamil people (>45 years) living in Toronto was 4.1% (11.5% at 65 years or more). The prevalence of POAG was 5.7%, but only 32.5% were associated with PXS. PXF glaucoma was found in 47.6% of those with PXS.
  • Optic nerve head hemorrhages were found in 28% of patients on anticoagulants. There was no association with systemic disease.
  • A five-year randomized study comparing selective laser trabeculoplasty with argon laser trabeculoplasty reported similar results for both modalities.
  • No correlation was found between the severity of glaucoma and the amount of pseudoexfoliation material.
  • In pseudoexfoliation syndrome, four extracellular matrix genes were over expressed, while one gene was under expressed.
  • POAG patients had a higher IOP response to cycloplegia than normals, which in most cases was attributed to the use of miotics.
  • G-probes can be used safely up to at least 30 times.
  • Disease stability is correlated with lower IOP and there may be a relationship with the lower cost of therapy.
  • The blood flow in the neuroretinal rim of ONHs with a CDR of more than 0.4 was significantly lower than in those with a CDR of less than 0.4 (laser Doppler flowmetry).
