Regional and National Glaucoma Societies Symposia during WGC

Tarek Sharaawy

More than twenty societies, both regional and national, have accepted the WGA invitation to organize symposia on the morning of Wednesday, July 8, prior to the WGC opening ceremony.
These symposia are expected to be one of the main highlights of the WGC program. They do not only emphasize the fact that different regions and nations have specific needs and aspirations regarding issues related to glaucoma epidemiology, its management, and its position among health priorities in their respective communities, they also draw attention to possible countries-specific educational issues and needs.

The invitation by WGA to its member societies to organize such symposia stems from the WGA belief that such activities will serve to consolidate relationships between societies as well as offer the WGC participants a window on glaucoma patterns and needs in different geographic areas.
Many member societies have also chosen to organize such symposia in collaboration with other societies, thus fulfilling a clear 'raison d'être' of the WGA itself, in building bridges of friendship and collaborations among glaucoma specialists all over the world, for the common benefit of the profession and ultimately for the good of all glaucoma patients.

You are invited to look out for the detailed programs of these symposia on the WGA website. With such a varied array of parallel symposia, the selection will be anything but easy.
