AIM: To determine the effect of erigeron breviscapus hand-mazz (EBHM) on optic nerve head (ONH) and peripapillary blood flow by Heidelberg retina flowmeter (HRF). METHODS: ONH and peripapillary retinal blood flow of 36 glaucomatous patients with controlled intraocular pressure were measured by HRF before and 2, 4 and 6 months after two pills (EBHM or placebo) were given three times a day for 6 months in a double blind way. RESULTS: In the volume, flow and velocity of ONH and peripapillary retinal blood flow, there were significant changes from the baseline values at 4 and 6 months after taking EBHM. CONCLUSION: EBHM can increase the volume, velocity and flow of the ONH and peripapillary retinal blood in glaucomatous patients with intraocular pressure controlled; this effect is related to the course.
