OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical contribution of phacoemulsification combined with cataract and trabeculectomy triple surgery. METHODS: Seventy cases (76 eyes) with glaucoma and cataract were randomly chosen and followed up for 6 ± 17 months. Thirty-six eyes received phacoemulsification and IOL-implantation combined with trabeculectomy (PHACO group) and 40 eyes underwent modern extracapsular cataract extraction and IOL-implantation combined with trabeculectomy (ECCE group). RESULTS: Postoperatively, in the PHACO group, the incidence of temporal high intraocular pressure (IOP) and the cases of adding antiglaucoma drug were lower. There were more cases with uncorrected visual acuity 0.5 or better in the PHACO group than in the ECCE group. The incidence of postoperative complications such as hyphema, fibrous effusion, pigmentation on the IOL and cystoid macular edema in the PHACO group was less than in the ECCE group. CONCLUSION: The triple surgery of phacoemulsification and IOL-implantation combined with trabeculectomy is safe and effective.LA: Chinese
