View and download the power of the matrix on a short movie
from the Glaucoma Unit and ORB (Ocular Repair and Regeneration Unit) at
Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Institute of Ophthalmology, London on the
WGA/IGR website. Not the fiction version but the real power of altering
the conjunctival matrix. This is a "morphed" picture of two blebs using
a small area of mitomycin treatment with a limbus based conjunctival flap
in ones eye and then changing to a larger area of mitomycin treatment with
a fornix based bleb in the other of the same patient. Complications from
mitomycin are dramatically reduced with this change. This matrix change
does not cost $140 million but can be achieved very simply with a small
change in surgical technique as part of a new Safe Surgery System. The paper
featuring this technique change together with two others showing the dramatic
antiscarring affects of matrix control will be reviewed in the next issue
of IGR.
